Book recommendations

When I was in first grade, I can remember a time when I took a book out of my backpack to read during recess. Some girls from my class saw me and started teasing me about it. “That book has chapters. You can’t read that. We don’t even have to read that in school yet.”

“Yes I can” I told them, and I could, because I had been reading with my parents before bed every night since I could remember, and any other time I could find. ”Prove it. Read something out loud then” they taunted.

“Well, you wouldn’t know if I’m actually reading it anyway, because you can’t read what it says”. They left me alone after that. Bazinga, 1st-grade me.

Below I’ve listed my favourite books, what I’m currently reading, and some great articles so that you can enjoy them too. I’m always looking for new and interesting reads, so if you have a recommendation I’d love to hear it!

I’m reading Shantaram at the moment too. I’m only about 200 pages in, but I’m loving it so far! Have you read The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns? If not, do so now. They’re amazing!

Really glad I stumbled across your blog, it’s really interesting reading the views and opinions of someone in a similar stage of their career to me.

      Hey Sam!
I haven’t read either one of those books, but I remember a long time ago someone telling me to read Kite Runner. I’m definitely adding those to my list. And I’m also only about 350 pages into Shantaram, but I love the detail on all of the Indian culture!
Also, thanks for the lovely words. You made my day! Good luck with your career and I hope you’ll stop back here sometime :)

Love this page! When I was in elementary school I was that girl who walked down the hallway reading a book, thank goodness I never ran into anyone! Really like your list of followed blogs, I definitely would suggest that you try out http://www.thedailymuse.com/ . They are a great group of young and ambitious women working to “change the ratio”. Glad I found this blog and happy to be a new follower. :)

    What an awesome page!

Wheat Belly changed my life, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. And If you’re in the market for some new (non-fiction) reads I’d definitely recommend Sheryl Sandberg’s Lean In (yes I know, I know, there’s a ridiculous amount of hype around it but I really do believe ALL women should read it, not just careerists!) and Improv Wisdom by Patricia Madson (especially perfect for Type A people like me who feel the need to over-prepare for everything!)

Thanks for the recs Kathy, I’ll definitely check those books out when I finally get through the pile of other books on my bucket list! Wheat belly is definitely convincing me to make a more concerted effort to kick the gluten… and these days it’s not even that hard to do it with the huge array of GF foods available. Thank goodness!
