Sometimes, despite the number and variety of online blogs and websites I like to read, I find myself in an internet rut. Even though I like to mix up the subjects I read about (fashion, business, science, beauty, current events, and the news), I just plain find myself in a rut. I don’t want any more short stories, I don’t want to look at any more clothes that I can’t justify buying, and I just want to read something that’s damn interesting, for goodness sake. So, I googled it.
That was a lie. My boyfriend sent me the link to the Damn Interesting website knowing full well that the science geek and story-lover in me would love this site, which I completely do. If you’re looking for something awesome, interesting, and completely factual to read, this site is for you. If you’re looking for a great topic of conversation for your next awkward get together or office function, hey, this is for you! And even if you’re not much of a history buff at all (I’m honestly not either), you’ll find this website super interesting. How about the man who spent 40 minutes falling through a storm cloud after he’d ejected from his aircraft? Or the guy who beat astronomical odds and outsmarted a game show to win tens of thousands of dollars? Internet-land can be a pretty fun place on the day-to-day, but sometimes a good old story that makes you shake your head and go “no way…” is just what the doctor ordered. Nerdy little tidbits of information are my favourite to whip out in the midst of conversation (well, those and terrible pre-schooler jokes), and with the discovery of this little online gem, I’ve got a whole new arsenal of material.
